| On Saturday, October
25, 2003 we woke up to the realization that the Val Verde Fire (which had
been burning for 3 days) was headed for our town. The next 3 days
were very intense with fire burning all around. The fire came over
our east mountain range in the morning. By the afternoon, it had
jumped Highway 126 and went to the south mountain range that separates us
from Simi Valley. By that night the whole mountain range to the
south was on fire for as far as the eye could see and we heard reports of
Simi and Moorpark already being affected by the flames. Sunday
afternoon, the Piru fire which started north of the lake earlier in the
week took a turn and headed west to Fillmore. It also headed south
and came over our north mountain range. It took 2 days for it to
burn this part of our mountains.
